Tehuacana Creek is located near Waco, TX, and flows southwest through Hill and McLennan counties to its confluence with the Brazos River. The Tehuacana Creek watershed covers approximately 300 square miles in portions of Hill, Limestone, and McLennan counties. The majority of the watershed is located in rural areas and a small portion contains developed areas near Waco and the I-35 corridor.
Tehuacana Creek is impaired due to high bacteria concentrations and considered unsuitable for recreational activities such as swimming and wading. This project aims to collect water quality data along Tehuacana Creek and lay groundwork for a watershed based plan that will focus on activities to improve water quality. Funding for this project is provided by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
